Today, I'm excited to announce the pre-launch page of the Modos Paper Monitor on Crowd Supply. The Modos Paper Monitor is an open-hardware 13.3-inch, 1600 x 1200 monochrome or color e-ink monitor with a fast 60 Hz refresh rate, low latency, multiple image modes and dithering options, and flexible screen update control. It can be connected using HDMI and USB-C and works on Linux, macOS, and Windows.
In a previous update, I shared that we were selected for a grant from the NLnet Foundation. We're happy to report that we've completed the grant's milestones. We've created a video below discussing our achievements and updates on our engineer prototype. In addition to the video, we've updated the README of the Glider repository. The README contains information related to the project and a comprehensive primer on e-ink.
I'm happy to announce that I'll be speaking at FOSDEM 2024 and sharing a bit about the work we've been doing at Modos and our next steps.
Thank you to everyone who has completed our community survey and reached out. The response has been overwhelmingly positive; we’ve had over 2,500 people complete our community survey and have learned much about people’s needs and what they want in an e-ink device.
Last week, we introduced the Modos Paper Monitor: an open-hardware standalone portable monitor made for reading and writing, especially for people who need to stare at the display for a long time.
As an open hardware company, we have the opportunity to take you with us on the journey of creating a product from beginning to end, to involve you in the process, make decisions and collaborate together.
This week we’d like to focus on our Paper Monitor’s exterior design and hear from you.
